Teeth Of Winter

Open Edition

It was the winter of 2014 and the mid-atlantic was locked into the Polar Vortex which brought record breaking lows to the area. As I got in my car that morning to head to Sandy Point State Park the thermometer in my car read -2 degrees fahrenheit. By the time I pulled into the park the temperature had not budged. It was about half an hour before sunrise and I was bundled up walking the beach. I eventually came upon these rocks that were coated in ice and icicles. Despite being freezing cold I set up my tripod and camera and framed up the image. I decided on a longer exposure of 4 seconds to blur the incoming waves off the Chesapeake Bay. I think it gives the image a nice, ethereal feel. After getting a shot I was happy with I bolted back to the car to warm up. I would end up taking a total of three compositions that morning but honestly I spent more time in the car trying to stay warm!
