Otter Point At Dawn

Open Edition

There is probably no more photographed beaches than the beaches of Acadia National Park in Maine. But I found myself falling in love with these beaches during the autumn mornings I spent in the park. The cool, crisp air mixed in with the crashing of the waves on the rocks was intoxicating. So early one morning I walked out onto the rocky beach and waited for the sun to approach the horizon. The clouds eventually began to light up but not enough to really add interest to the scene. But when the sun broke the horizon, the flood of golden light was gorgeous. The wet rocks acted like mirrors for the sunlight. I ripped my polarizer off allowing the rocks to reflect all the light they could. The autumn leaves in the background trees glowed with the light they were receiving. I tried not to slip on the wet rocks I was standing on, but the more the sunlight flooded in the more giddy I got. Eventually I saw this composition and I knew it was the shot I had been after. I packed my camera up and set off up the beach in search of other images but this one captured a spot in my heart.
