Morning At Folly Beach

Open Edition

I got up long before the crack of dawn in order to drive to Folly Beach, SC from my hotel room in Charleston. This was my first trip to Folly Beach and due to the distance I did not get a chance to scout out the location ahead of time. So I was going to wing it. I fell in love with the long fishing pier and decided to make it the focus of my composition. It was a warm spring morning and a cool breeze was blowing off the ocean. I just love the beach when I have it all to myself. The crashing of the waves is very soothing. With the sun approaching the horizon the clouds began to light up. And then I saw the reflection of the sky in the outgoing tide and I knew I had my composition. I set up my tripod just beyond the waves and aimed back at the pier. I love the soft pastel colors of this image, I find it just as soothing as actually being there!
