Ghost Ship

Open Edition

The road into Port Mahon, Delaware is a broken up, sandy mess. I have to drive very slow to avoid the potholes and cracked asphalt. The whole area feels so desolate and run down. First you pass a fishing pier that I have never seen anyone fishing off of, then you pass a petroleum unloading dock, and finally what appears to be the remnants of a marina. Towards the end of the only road through Port Mahon, just before the dead end there is a boat off the road on the banks of the Delaware Bay. This boat is an abandoned and rotting carcass of a fishing boat. As I approached it I sank into the muddy, rocky sand. The white boat and the brown sand and reeds would have made a boring color composition so I knew I was doing this image as a black and white. I got really close to the boat with my wide angle lens to accentuate the once proud bow of the boat. I am really happy with this image and how the eye is just drawn to the boat.
