Botany Bay II

Open Edition

Botany Bay Plantation lies at the end of one of the prettiest roads I’ve ever been on. The Spanish Moss and classic live Oak just scream “I’m in the south”... I arrived at the plantation before sunrise and before the gates were open for vehicular traffic. I pulled my bike off the bike rack and loaded up all my gear. I tried biking the drive but it proved to be too sandy and my bike kept threatening to slide out from under me. So now instead of just walking I was pushing a bike too! Eventually I made it to the beach access which is across a long boardwalk where I heard snapping sounds that made me nervous. Turns out it was likely shrimp making the snapping sounds with their claws! It is illegal to remove shells from the beach so there are so many shells piled up on the beach. The Botany Bay Plantation beach is a boneyard beach where the tide has eroded into the forest line and killed the trees leaving dead trees in the surf zone. I waded into the water to line up the perfect shot just as the sun was starting to reflect off the clouds. I isolated a lone tree in the ocean and it made for a very peaceful, serene shot!
