Bass Harbor Red

Open Edition

Some shots teach you things. This shot taught me the importance of being patient. As I stood on the rocks with the other photographers trying to capture Bass Harbor Lighthouse the clouds started to roll in. In fact, clouds completely covered the western skies making sunset look like it was going to be a dud. More than half of the photographers packed up and left. I decided I would wait it out and see what happened so I stayed wedged up against a big rock with my camera on a tripod at the ready. As the sun dipped below the horizon suddenly the clouds took on a pinkish glow rewarding my patience. The glow lasted for all of about five minutes and then the heavens opened up and a fierce thunderstorm pounded the coast. Exactly the type of weather which the lighthouse was designed to save lives during. I packed my gear up and headed back to the car in the crescendoing rain.
